Frequently Asked Question
What is PON light on the modem?
Last Updated 3 months ago
PON stands for Passive Optical Network, which is a fiber-optic network that uses unpowered optical splitters to send data from a single source to multiple endpoints:
- How it works?
A PON starts at an optical line terminal (OLT) in a service provider's central office, and a single fiber runs through a passive optical splitter to provide broadband connections for up to 32 optical network units (ONUs) or optical network terminals (ONTs). - Benefits
PONs are more efficient than active optical networks (AONs) because they use fewer router/switch ports, less fiber cabling, and unpowered splitters. They also require less climate control and extra equipment. - Types of PONs
Depending on where the PON terminates, it can be described as fiber to the curb, fiber to the building, or fiber to the home.
What should I do if the PON light is not stable?
- Turn off the modem wait for 10 seconds and turn the modem on again.
- Remove the patch cord carefully and re-insert the cable.
